The adult literacy rate in Cambodia has increased, as the final results of the 2008 general population census has revealed. Although the number of literate 7-year-olds and older has increased from 62,8% (2005) to 78,35% (2008), it still remains the lowest in southeast Asia after Laos. Also, the number of children attending school has increased.
The results also show that the population of Cambodia has increased from 11,4m people to more than 13,4m in 2008, the estimated infant mortality rates shows a moderate decrease from 66 to 60 per 1'000 births during 2005 and 2008.

Die Volkszählung zeigt ausserdem, dass die kamdoschanische Bevölkerung weiter wächst. Aktuell zählt Kambodscha rund 13,5 Millionen Einwohner, das sind knapp 2 Millionen mehr als noch vor zehn Jahren. Die Kindersterblichkeit ist zwischen 2005 und 2008 leicht von 66 auf 60 Kinder aus 1000 Geburten zurückgegangen.
